 > How can one research the register of Damme Cathedral?   Don

A visit to the nearest family History Center of the Mormon Curch would provide an introduction into using their records. Ask to see the fiche for Germany and in particular the Oldenburg localities catalog and look for Damme. This can also be done on the center's computers using their CDROM collection.
Once you find Damme, you simply note the particular films you wish to inspect and order them for review. It should take about 2 weeks to get these films and it costs $6 per film (I think).

Rental is approx. $3.25/film for 60 days.  Film must arrive back in Salt Lake City by 60 days.  You can renew them.  The 2nd time you renew those films, you can chose to make them indefinte and they will stay in the FHC
until you direct them to be returned at no additional cost.  Some places will allow you to go ahead and pay approx. $9.75 up front to keep them indefinitely.

The going rate for microfilms from the FHL in Salt Lake City is $3.25 for six weeks.  They may be renewed twice for an additonal $3.25 a pop, after which they may be retained on indefinite loan at your local center for as long as you need them.  It generally takes 2-3 weeks to get the film.  If you're in a rush, the FHL catalog CD will tell you the location of any FHCs that already have it (usually several months out of date, but can be useful).

I have just finished poring through these rolls 0909910 through 12.  I found death , birth and marriage records for my FERNEDING, VonderHeide and Pille ancestors from the Holdorf area that were in the St. Viktor Parish, Damme Kirchenbuchs up to the 1830's.  After that date the Vechta Bishop's Archives hold these Holdorf, Ihorst and Neuenkirchen records.
Holdorf records started:
- Geburten:  1790
- Tod:          1809
- Heiraten:    1827

These are generally quite readable and the records are divided, as usual into sections for deaths <Tode>, births and baptisms <geboren, taufen> and marriages with a Latin heading <Copulati> which means <linked or married> and not what you may think.
