Steinfeld(ru) - Mit der Emailanfrage eines Familienforscher aus den USA begann 1997 das, was am Wochenende seinen vorläufigen Höhepunkt fand: Über 100 Nachfahren der Familie Honkomp, darunter 24 Honkomps aus den USA, feierten das erste deutsch-amerikanische Honkomp-Familientreffen. 
In akribischer Kleinarbeit hatten vor allem Werner Honkomp aus Oldenburg und Stephan Honkomp aus Steinfeld - beide organisierten auch die "Honkomp-Reunion" - in den vergangenen Jahren in Archiven gestöbert und im Internet recherchiert, um vergessene Familienstammbäume bis ins Jahr 1568 zurückzuverfolgen: In diesem Jahr wurde Johan Hoenkamp geboren. Seine Hofstelle, an der sich heute der Hof kl. Holthaus am Honkomper Weg in Steinfeld-Düpe befindet, gehörte natürlich zu den Zielen einer Bustour. Ein detaillierter Vortrag über die Auswanderung und Familienlinien im Hotel Schemder Bergmark war am Freitag Auftakt, ein zünftiger Abend am Samstag bei Overmeyer gab Gelegenheit zum Kennenlernen und Feiern. Hier wurde ein Wiedersehen verabredet: in drei Jahren in Cincinnati!

Steinfeld (ru) - Last weekend more than 100 descendants of the Honkomp family, among them 24 Honkomps from the USA, met for the first German-American Honkomp reunion. This event has so far been the highlight of something that started in 1997 with a family researcher’s  e-mail inquiry from the USA.
Over the last years particularly Werner Honkomp from Oldenburg and Stephan Honkomp from Steinfeld - both also the organizers of the reunion - searched meticulously in archives and the internet to trace forgotten family trees back to the year of 1568. This was the year when Johan Hoenkamp was born. The place where is his old farm used to be, at the Honkomper Weg in Steinfeld - Düpe - today the farm of the family kl. Holthaus - was of course one of the bus tour’s destinations. 
On friday night the reunion started with a detailed lecture on emigration in the 19th century and Honkomp family lines in the hotel ‘Schemder Bergmark’. Saturday night was the time to get to know each other and to enjoy oneself at Overmeyer’s. Here it was agreed that there should be another reunion: in three years in Cincinnati!
